A lot of collection development is deselection, too...I think MI's current collection indicates that maybe a lot of older books just haven't been weeded out. As you point out, the age of the schools is also a big factor. However, I will never NEVER understand why so many schools keep outdated nonfiction books around. It's a real problem. PLUS you'd think that Brevard's schools would be all over current science and math texts, since...you know...NASA and all.
I shouldn't really bitch, though. MI is still a good school, and Brevard overall is one of the state's best school districts.
(I'm just bitter that I didn't go to West Shore and bask in the academic awesomeness. :D)
